PROCTORS
TITLE: Media Teaching Artist
DEPARTMENT: Education
REPORTS TO:  Education Program Manager
JOB SUMMARY:
Proctor's Education Department is a critical division of our growing arts center, serving over 40,000 children and adults each season.   Programs have been strategically created to provide for diverse needs of our community and to cultivate the audience of the future with a special commitment to school partnerships and the underserved.   MediaWorks pairs a professional media artist with a 9th grade English teacher at Schenectady High School. Together, the team develops new routes to curriculum instruction, using arts strategies to deliver project-based learning. MediaWorks has three goals: (1) establish a new method of instruction for Common Core curriculum that is adaptable to different learning styles, (2) provide teachers and schools with methodology and resources to include arts- based instruction, and (3) to change learning pathways for students in order to increase achievement and success.  Proctors provides the professional media artist that then becomes part of the district’s teaching team. Together, the teaching team builds curriculum, and co-teaches throughout the year.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
- Instruct students in use of media technology while using cameras, computers, and editing software.
- Work in partnership with ELA teacher to co-develop all film and media projects appropriate for students throughout the school year.
- Create lesson plans for all media and video projects.
- Facilitate program documentation including student work on the web site, lesson plans, student evaluations, and quarterly tracking of grades.
- Promote the creative process and advocate for student voice.
- Provide feedback and updates to Education Program Manager.
- Offer advice, ideas, technical knowledge and experience in developing media-based   projects.
- Contribute to planning sessions, curriculum development, student assessments and grading (where applicable).
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates or Bachelors Degree in related field.
- Teaching experience preferable, with strong interest in or knowledge of media with TV and film production and working with youth.
- Proficiencies working with MAC platforms. Software knowledge required: IMovie, Final Cut Pro 7 and 10, Adobe After Effects, and Photoshop.
- Web-based content management.
- Must be dependable and self-motivated.
- Have professional demeanor and appearance.
- Have the ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.
- Be a team player that is able to work well with others.
- Possess strong verbal and written skills.

- Comply with Schenectady City School District requirements for student contact   time and must pass fingerprint clearance by the NYS Department of Education.
Tenure: 10-month teaching schedule, September through June (concurrent with school year).
Salary: Starts at $30,000 or based on experience.
Benefits: Health insurance for 12 months, access to other employee benefits (in employee handbook)
Start Date: September 2015
