[Capdist-auditions] Reminder: Auditions for Into the Woods at Schenectady Light Opera Company

Schenectady Light Opera Company will hold auditions on Monday, Dec 5 and
Tuesday, Dec 6, 2016 for its production of Stephen Sondheim’s Tony Award
winning musical *Into the Woods* with book by James Lapine.

*Audition Date:  December 5 and 6, 2016, 6:30 pm sign in. Auditions held on
a first-come, first-served basis. All Community members are welcome.*

*Auditioners* *should prepare a memorized* *32 bars from a Broadway musical
appropriate for the show. *Please bring sheet music in your own key. An
accompanist will be provided.

*Callbacks (by invitation only):  Wednesday Dec 7th at 6:30 pm.*

*Performance Dates: **Into the Woods *runs two weekends from March 10-12
and March 16-19, Thursday-Saturdays at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm. All
performances will be held at the Schenectady Light Opera Company, located
at 427 Franklin St, Schenectady New York 12305.

*Into the Woods *is a delightful exploration about wishes, family and the
choices we make as told through several familiar fairy tale characters by
the inimitable Brothers Grimm.

The story follows a Baker and his wife who wish to have a child, Cinderella
who wishes to attend the King's Festival, and Jack who wishes his cow would
give milk. When the Baker and the Baker’s Wife learn that they cannot have
a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break
the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their
actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

One of Sondheim's most popular works, *Into the Woods *is a musically
sophisticated show with the opportunity to feature singing actors adept at
dark comedy.

*Character Breakdown *

CINDERELLA: A young, earnest maiden who is constantly mistreated by her
stepmother and stepsisters. Female, Range: G3 - G5

CINDERELLA'S MOTHER (also plays Giant’s Wife and Little Red Riding Hood’s
Grandmother): Deceased, her soul guards and aids her daughter from a tree.
Female, Range: E4 - F4

CINDERELLA'S PRINCE (Also plays the Wolf): Vain and handsome, he is a
disloyal lover who is currently searching for the next new, exciting thing.
Male, Range: Bb2 - Gb4

CINDERELLA'S STEPMOTHER: The mean-spirited, demanding stepmother of
Cinderella. Female, Range: A3 - F#5

FLORINDA and LUCINDA: Cinderella's stepsisters who are black of heart. They
follow in their mother's footsteps of abusing Cinderella.
Female, Range: C4 - Ab5

JACK: The cow-loving Giant killer who is 'almost a man.' He is adventurous,
naive, energetic, and bright-eyed. Male, Range: B2 - G4

JACK'S MOTHER: Browbeating and weary, Jack's protective mother is
independent, bold, and strong-willed. Female, Range: Bb3 - Gb5

LITTLE RED RIDINGHOOD: A spoiled young girl who is strong-willed,
quick-witted, fearless, yet youthful and naive.
Female, Range: Bb3 - F5

MYSTERIOUS MAN (Also plays the Narrator): A mischievous vagrant and nosy
meddler. He is a good- natured protector and observer.
Male, Range: G2 - Eb4

RAPUNZEL: A loopy-but-lovely maiden who is sheltered by the Witch and
terribly lonely. She yearns to experience the world.
Female, Range: B3 - A5

RAPUNZEL'S PRINCE: Just as vain and handsome as his Prince brother, he is
always chasing the newest, most exiting endeavor.
Male, Range: C#3 - E4

THE BAKER: A harried and insecure baker who is simple and loving, yet
protective of his family. He wants his wife to be happy and is willing to
do anything to ensure her happiness but refuses to let others fight his
battles. Male, Range: Ab2 - G4

THE BAKER'S WIFE: Determined and bright woman who wishes to be a mother.
She can be proactive in her endeavors.
Female, Range: F3 - G5

THE WITCH: Sarcastic, ugly-then-gorgeous, obsessive protector of Rapunzel
who is straightforward and aggressive.
Female, Range: F3 - G5
