TENTATIVE First Read-through: Tuesday, November 29

A sinister con man, Roat, and two ex-convicts, Mike and Carlino, are about
to meet their match. They have traced the location of a mysterious doll, in
which they are much interested, to the Greenwich Village apartment of Sam
Hendrix and his blind wife, Susy. Sam had apparently been persuaded by a
strange woman to transport the doll across the Canadian border not knowing
that sewn inside were several grams of heroin. When the woman is murdered
the situation becomes more urgent. The con man and his ex-convict
associates, through a cleverly constructed deception, convince Susy that the
police have implicated Sam in the woman’s murder, and the doll, which she
believes is the key to his innocence, is evidence. She refuses to reveal
its location, and with the help of a young neighbor, figures out she is the
victim of a bizarre charade. But when Roat kills his associates, a deadly
game of cat and mouse ensues between him and Susy. She knows the only way
to play fair is by her rules, so when darkness falls she turns off all the
lights, leaving both of them to maneuver in the dark until the game ends.
The time period is early to mid-sixties.

Characters: 6 men, 1 woman, 1 girl. Note: age parameters are guidelines and
not necessarily the most important consideration for casting.

Mike Talman (m) 30s to 50s.. Feigning nice demeanor, but a sinister side.
Ex-con.

“Sgt.” Carlino (m) 30s to 50s. Another ex-con. Not as clever as Mike.
Masquerading as a police sergeant. Over his head in this operation.

Harry Roat, Jr.(m) 30s to 50s. Roat is the brains behind this whole gig.
Roat is ruthless, cool and collected. He appears during the play as his
father, Harry Roat, Sr. for his own nefarious purposes.

Susy Hendrix (f) mid 20s to mid 30s. Susy is blind, and says she lost her
sight in an auto accident. Sharper and more confident (and competent) than
her husband knows.

Sam Hendrix (m) Susy’s age within a couple of years. Sam is a photographer.
He is a good, loving, supportive husband who tends to underestimate his
wife, which we find out during the course of the play.

Gloria (f) about 10 years old. Gloria lives upstairs from Sam and Susy.
She is a typical 10-year old, with all attendant brattiness, but she
genuinely cares for Sam and Susy.

Policemen (2) (probably male because of the time period of the play) any age
short of retirement.

Production dates: March 24, 25, 26, 30, 31, 2017. April 1 & 2, 2017.

Rehearsal dates & times TBD based on cast availability.

No appointment necessary.
