  5.  TYA In-School Tour (no overnights)

Please prepare:

  *   A short monologue of your choice.
  *   Those interested in Cinderella! should also prepare a song, a cappella, preferably in the doo-wop style. One minute or less.
  *   Additionally, please bring a stapled copy of your headshot and resume


All actors, Equity and Non-Equity, are welcome to submit.

All actors cast will receive an Equity Contract.

All actors will be put on an Actor/ASM contract. [As ASM’s, actors will help with load in and load out, set up and strike of the set.]

No appointment necessary for AEA actors.

CINDERELLA!

Who wouldn’t want a night off from the mountain of chores foisted upon them by a ruthless step-mother and the constant bullying of two truly unkind step-sisters? Join Cinderella on the adventure of her life when, in one short night, she will witness magic, travel to the palace, dance with the Prince, experience real friendship, and gain a true sense of self. With the help of her rapping and toe tapping Fairy God Mother, Cinderella will see that there is more to life than the unfortunate step-family thrust upon her (and they may learn a lesson or two as well). In this new musical adaptation students will explore themes such as jealousy, self-esteem, good-vs-evil and finding one’s voice. A fun and upbeat new twist, with doo-wop inspired music, this adaptation of Cinderella will leave you saying “the future is mine for the choosing!”

Seeking (3) versatile, physically agile, quick study actor singers.


The roles of Actor 2 (Fairy God Person/Prince’s Valet/Cinderella’s Father) and Actor 3 (Step Mother and Step Sisters) have been pre-cast.


All actors involved in the production need to be quick study, move well and be comfortable manipulating puppets.


Actor 4: Plays Prince/Ensemble. Male 20s-30s. He is the cool cat in town – think Conrad Birdie from ‘Bye Bye Birdie’. A bit restless in his life but fun. Must be able to dance and the ability rap, a plus.


Actor 1: Plays Cinderella. Female 20s-30s. Good natured and kind, Cinderella always finds a way to improve her own situation, not matter how bad it is. Ever the optimist, she takes each moment to learn and grow into herself.


Actor 5: Plays Narrator, King, Puppeteer. Male, late 20s-30s. A storyteller with verbal dexterity, able to weave a spell enabling young audiences to enter a “once upon a time” world. Must have experience with puppetry.


PETTICOATS OF STEEL

Celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment - Women’s Right to Vote! This powerful production allows students to experience the battles fought – and ultimately won – for women’s suffrage told in the voices of the brave warriors who fought them as well as those who fought – and still are fighting – for civil rights for all. Petticoats of Steel uses primary sources and chronicles the story of how women got the vote in NYS and the United States through the work of African American and Caucasian suffragettes, including Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, Mary Church Terrell, and Sojourner Truth (and others).

Seeking (3) female versatile, physically agile, quick study actors.



Actor Tracks 1 and 2: Female 20s-30s: (2) Physically adept actor who will portray a variety of characters both male and female, including Sojourner Truth, Mary Church Terell, Lucretia Mott, and Harriet Tubman.



Actor Track 3: Female 20s-30s: (1) Physically adept actor who will portray a variety of characters both male and female including Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Clara Barton.


TYA Stage Managers: We do not have any open positions for TYA stage managers this season. However, stage managers interested in working with theREP in the future may submit their resumes to Production Manager, Brandon Curry, at: bcurry at capitalrep.org<mailto:bcurry at capitalrep.org>

For more than a decade, Capital Repertory Theatre’s TYA On-The Go! in-School touring productions have been presented in a variety of schools and environments throughout the Capital Region to very diverse audiences. Actors should enjoy performing for and interacting with young audiences (middle and high school students). There are post-show discussions after every performance (time permitting). Actors must also be collegial and adaptive. There are no overnight stays on the tour. The TYA work week is Monday – Saturday.
