I apologize,
The opening night for the Tempest is November 13th 2020, not April 17th.
I hope this email finds you well. The RPI Players are seeking a director
for our 91st season production of The Tempest, to be put on in November
of 2020, barring any pandemic restrictions.
The scope of work is described below. Directors will receive a stipend
for their work. If interested, please reach out to Maxwell
Krantz-LeVasseur at krantm at rpi.edu for more information.
This is a collaborative position, you will be working alongside student
volunteers at RPI's all student run theater as a creative guide.
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the directors include the following:
Attend auditions and cast the show with input from other central
production members
Attend all rehearsals and direct actors in terms of staging, character
analysis, etc.
Attend production meetings to work with designers to convert creative
vision of the show
Time Commitment:
The exact rehearsal schedule will be determined based on central
production and actor availability.
Generally speaking, the director will be committing 10 hours per week to
our show. Exceptions to this process include the beginning (auditions
and casting and the end (dress rehearsals) of the production cycle.
The following breaks down the exact specifications for time commitment :
-Two 3-hour long auditions in the beginning of the production (September
4th, September 5th, in person)
-One 3-hour long meeting to cast the show and plan the rehearsal
schedule (September 6th, in person or Skype)
Three 3-hour long rehearsals per week until a week before the show
-One 1-hour long production meeting per week until a week before the
show (Fridays at 5:30 PM, in person)
-Five 3-hour dress rehearsals the week of the show (in person )
-Short meetings to resolve issues that will arise (likely to be no more
than three 1-hour meetings throughout production cycle, can be Skype or
in person)
Timeline:
Auditions will take place on September 5th and 6th. Rehearsals will
begin the week after auditions. There may be some days where regular
rehearsal will be canceled. The exact days that will be canceled will be
determined by the director. The last rehearsal will be on November 11th,
and the show will open on November 13th. The director is encouraged, but
not required, to attend the shows.
Attached is a short creative statement with some sample slides to help
visualize the direction we wish to pursue.
Best,
Maxwell Krantz-LeVasseur
