TITLE: Virtual Acting Instructor/Teaching Artist




Job Summary:

Proctors Collaborative is the Capital District’s leading regional arts organization with performing arts venues in Albany, Schenectady and Saratoga, and education, civic engagement and economic development initiatives throughout the region.  The School of the Performing Arts is the education wing of the organization, offering a robust series of training programs, classes and engagement programs in each venue, in schools and throughout the community.



The School of the Performing Arts at Proctors Collaborative is seeking Drama/Acting Instructors for the virtual school programs. Instructor must be trained in the tools and techniques of theatre arts. Experience in teaching drama to youth ages 5 – 12, in a high energy, creative and fun environment that fosters self-confidence in each child, is a must. Instructor must be an ambassador for and have a dedication to performing arts.



Workshop content will be created and curated by teaching artist. In cover letter please present an idea of a 1-hour workshop that can be delivered to a student group virtually.  Be specific with age range, and any text you would like to use. Workshops could include but are not limited to: character creation, stage readings, improv, storytelling and more.  Final workshop content will be decided in collaboration with classroom teachers.



 RESPONSIBILITIES:

  *   Artist will deliver instruction for specific school workshop program as part of the School of The Performing Arts at Proctors.
  *   Artist will teach character and acting techniques for group and individual scenes and help each student develop skills as individuals and as a class.
  *   Artist will inspire students to be creative and assist in creating an atmosphere of self-expression and self-esteem building.
  *   Artist will work with teachers and Creative Workforce Director to create focus the program towards specific grade level and curriculum.
  *   Cultivates and forges positive relations with teachers and school district administrators as needed and in collaboration with Proctors staff
  *   Keeps Creative Workforce Director informed of pertinent information, including any challenges in fulfilling responsibilities



Qualifications

  *   BA in Theatre or Education or relevant experience.
  *   Minimum two years of experience in performing arts and working with youth.
  *   Prior work experience in urban education and with diverse populations.
  *   Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with proven ability to interact with a diverse range of individuals both in person and virtual (video).
  *   Passion for theatre and theatre arts education.
  *   Understanding of virtual platforms and use for youth engagement (Zoom, Google Meets).
  *   Knowledge of virtual theatre games and exercises.



Contract period:

All offers of employment are based upon satisfactory completion of a background check and affirmation of artist and youth policies.

Part Time position, no benefits, from December 2020-March 2021. Exact dates and times to coordinate with teaching artist and classroom schedules.

TITLE: Acting Academy Instructor

JOB SUMMARY:
Proctors Collaborative is the Capital District’s leading regional arts organization with performing arts venues in Albany, Schenectady and Saratoga, and education, civic engagement and economic development initiatives throughout the region.  The School of the Performing Arts is the education wing of the organization, offering a robust series of training programs, classes and engagement programs in each venue, in schools and throughout the community.

The individual for this position will manage an after-school theatre training program for middle school youth from Schenectady City Schools.  This may include, but is not limited to delivery of one show per year while providing training and instruction in various theatre techniques: acting, vocal technique and choreography/ movement.  They foster an atmosphere of fun and learning where the concept of teamwork, fair play can flourish and serves as a role model to youth, encouraging in their efforts and teaching about new career opportunities along the way. The Acting Academy Instructor has overall accountability for the delivery, quality and success of the program and its students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  *   Develops a combination of drama-based activities that are deliverable in virtual learning environment, including plans for one or two performances for parents/family/friends.
  *   Responsible for the development and implementation of innovative and age-appropriate enrichment activities, and projects taking into consideration youth needs and abilities
  *   Promotes positive character development in all youth
  *   Accountable for ensuring an emotionally and physically safe environment for youth that meets all compliance and safety requirements set forth by the organization
  *   Creates and distributes schedule of all activities and ensures appropriate record keeping and reporting of youth attendance
  *   Ensures youth and their families are properly informed and prepared for all special events in coordination with Proctors staff
  *   Responsible for some recruitment support for program in coordination with Proctors staff

  *   Cultivates and forges positive relations with school district administrators as needed and in collaboration with Proctors staff
  *   Keeps Creative Workforce Director informed of pertinent site information, including any challenges in fulfilling responsibilities

  *   Tracks and cares for all equipment and supplies purchased for program
  *   Internet access and laptop with working mic and camera. Laptop can be provided.
  *   Ability to work collaboratively with Site Manager
  *   Other duties as assigned



Qualifications:

  *   Minimum two years of experience in performing arts and working with youth required
  *   Prior work experience in urban education with diverse populations, including supervisory experience, preferred

  *   Teaching and after school management experience preferred
  *   Understanding of virtual platforms and use for youth engagement (Zoom, Google Meets)

  *   Knowledge of arts programming and duties of show director
  *   Strong leader and team-builder
  *   Ability to resolve conflicts and negotiate solutions
  *   Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with proven ability to interact with a diverse range of individuals both in person and virtual (video), applying tact and discretion as situations demand
  *   Must have excellent organizational, time management and follow-up skills
  *   Responsible and professional conduct that serves as role model to staff and youth
  *   Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
