TITLE: MUSICAL DIRECTOR – Collaborative School of the Arts Acting Academy Spring 2022
JOB SUMMARY:

Proctors is the Capital Region’s leading regional arts organization with performing arts venues in Albany, Schenectady, and Saratoga, in education, civic engagement and economic development initiatives throughout the region.  The Collaborative School of the Arts is the education wing of the organization, offering a robust series of training programs, classes, and engagement programs in each venue, in schools and throughout the community.

The Collaborative School of Arts at Proctors, in Schenectady, New York is seeking an experienced, creative musical director who is a dynamic teacher for their Acting Academy for the spring of 2022.

The Acting Academy is an after-school program developed with the Schenectady City School District to provide theatre training for middle school students of the district. This program provides training in acting, improvisation, team building, movement, and music. The musical director would teach the music and songs of a JR. version Broadway show.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Musical Supervisor
- Vocal Coach
- Accompanies on keyboard during rehearsal
- Teach music to students
- Conduct all musical rehearsal needs for the production for the acting company
- Plan and meet with creative team as necessary
- Collaborates on class schedule to provide music workshops

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor’s Degree or greater in related field.
- Minimum of 1 year experience in musical or choral instruction.
- Must have teaching experience and loves working with students.
- Excellent piano/keyboard ability.
- Professional experience with all styles of musical theatre, and in-depth knowledge of music.
- Experience teaching/working with students ages 11-14 with a wide range of skill levels.
- Well organized and strong leader.
- Must be dependable and self-motivated.
- Must have professional demeanor and appearance.
- Must have the ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.
- Must be a team player that is able to work well with others.
- Must possess strong verbal and written skills.
- Have availability weekdays between 4-5:30pm.

All offers of employment are based upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
This is a Part-time position with no benefits. Acting Academy is an after-school program that runs annually from October 2021 to May 2022, Monday-Thursday 3:30-5:30p.m. (except during school breaks.) Rehearsal dates are flexible to independent contractor schedule between January-April 2022.
