Roles:

[LAURINA] (Lead)
12 to 14 years old, Italian descent. Sweetly Innocent with large expressive dark eyes, she's courageous beyond her years, intelligent, with a deep sense of conviction.

[PIETRO] (Lead)
30's-40's years old, Native speaking of Italian descent. Laurina's immigrant stepfather. On the surface charming but his selfishness and secret cruelty tears his new family apart. 

[DOCTOR PORTER] (Lead)
50's-70's years old, male. Deeply compassionate. Beaten down by his life as a factory physician and depressed by the dangerous working conditions of the immigrant employees. Thin, tall and gaunt. Suffering from end stage alcoholism. 

[CARMELLA] (Supporting)
30's. Native speaking of Italian descent. Laurina's mother. Passionate and vibrant, the realities of a life trapped in a terrible marriage and overwhelmed with guilt.

[MINNIE] (Supporting)
14 to 16 years old, Italian descent. Laurina's older sister. Intense and bold, Minnie is a risk taker, conflicted between loyalty to her family and to herself.

[ADULT LAURINA] (Supporting)
60's -80's years old, Italian descent. Kind, with an expressive face that emanates warmth, strength, wisdom, and compassion.

[LENA] (Day player)
Teenage granddaughter of Adult Laurina, 16-18.  Italian descent.  Innocent and frightened and facing a huge decision.  

[FATHER VISCONTI] ( Day player) 60-80’s. Kindly and jovial priest. Runs a Catholic orphanage. Any ethnicity.

[SISTER MARY ROSENA] (Day player) middle aged, stern and skeptical Nun. Any ethnicity.

STORYLINE:
"Laurina" is a short film based on the real-life journals of the two winter' grandmother. As a young, Italian-immigrant girl, (decades before the #metoo movement) Laurina struggles with the same question present-day survivors must face. Remain quiet or shatter the silence? As an older woman, Laurina is faced with the same difficult question, but this time it's not her voice that must be heard. "Laurina" is an inspiring story of courage and how one little girl's strength can ripple through generations. The story unfolds against a backdrop of mixed cultures and religions-- immigrants determined to find happiness and success in America.
