The School of the Performing Arts at theREP

Summer Stage Young Acting Company



Audition Deadline has been extended to: End of Day Wednesday, May 26, 2021

To Audition:

Please visit https://school.proctors.org/acting-company-submissions/ to fill out the required audition application, and to upload audition video.



Please Prepare:

  1.  A short, 1-minute, fully memorized monologue of your choosing (remember to have fun with the character you are portraying while you are filming your audition.
     *   Tips for recording: make sure the space you are performing in is neat and tidy; make sure you have a light shining on your face; make sure you speak loudly and clearly; and make sure you have fun!
  2.  If you play a musical instrument (not required) please include a 30second clip playing a song of your choosing.
  3.  If you sing (not required) please include a 16-32 bar section of a song of your choosing.

Rehearsals & Master Classes: July 19 – August 6; 9am-4pm, Mon-Fri.
Performances: Friday August 6 at 7pm and Saturday August 7 at 2pm and 7pm.
Tuition: $800 for three weeks. Scholarships available.
Age Range: 13-18 years old.


SPECIFICALLY SEEKING:

10+ young actors/actresses to form the company that will perform the five winning plays from theREP’s 2021 Young Playwright Contest.

Students of diverse backgrounds are encouraged to audition. All roles are open.

Character Descriptions for the six winning plays are as follows:

The Flower by Seamus Madden
Marigold – female identifying, 11years old, struggling under the weight of her father’s temper and his demanding personality
Mother – female identifying, gentle, loving, sad and helpless in Marigold’s current situation
Father – male identifying, rough, ill tempered, and quick to anger, he is not a nice man

Our New Colossus by Maya TerryStein
Claire – female identifying, 11 years old, has arrived at Ellis Island after fleeing her homeland
Leah - female identifying, 16 years old, has arrived at Ellis Island after fleeing her homeland
Rose - female identifying, 19 years old, has arrived at Ellis Island after fleeing her homeland
David - male identifying, 15 years old, has arrived at Ellis Island after fleeing his homeland
Ensemble Actors – in the Greek Chorus style, the Ensemble has a voice throughout the piece, and helps to create the Statue of Liberty

An Artist’s Hand by Grace Bombard
Ruby – female identifying, 20 years old, a painter, working to cope as an artist and human with a recently injured hand
Sunshine - female identifying, Ruby’s self-portrait at 5-7yrs old, full of optimism, happiness and sunshine
Doom - female identifying, Ruby’s teenage self-portrait, Ruby’s “Goth” phase, sees the world as a dark and gloomy place
Content - female identifying, Ruby’s adult self-portrait, a blend of optimism with a little pessimism, sees the good and the bad

Broken Glass by Maxine Alpart & Isabella Libby
Liliana Martinez - female identifying, 12 years old, Liliana is leaving Mexico to enter the USA
Carmen Garcia - female identifying, Liliana’s aunt, determined, attempting to enter the USA with Liliana
Lucia Martinez - female identifying, Liliana’s mom, sad, believes sending Liliana to the USA with her Aunt Carmen is the best thing to do
Alejandro Martinez - male identifying, determined to provide his daughter with the best life he can, believes sending Liliana to the USA with her Aunt Carmen is the best thing to do
Officer Smith - male identifying, a cold and uncaring man, he follows orders
Diego Sanchez - male identifying, 14 years old, trying to enter the USA, already jaded by the system

Dream Escape by Leanne Airhienbuwa & Amita Ganeshkumar
Linn - female identifying, a selfish and self-centered individual, she does not listen to anyone, it’s her way or nothing
Kareem – male identifying, a caring individual who is good at providing guidance and help
Man in White – male identifying, someone providing instruction to Linn
Disembodied Voice – a voice talking to Linn on her journey
Jeremy – male identifying, Linn’s brother, very worried about Linn
Samantha – female identifying, Linn’s best friend

Oh My God! By Meghan Cenci & Merryn Rositzkie
Jaylin - female identifying, teenager hanging with friends on a Friday night
Mikaela - female identifying, teenager hanging with friends on a Friday night
Anna - female identifying, teenager hanging with friends on a Friday night
The Man - male identifying, a God who has been “grounded”
Luxana - female identifying, a God who is checking up on the one who’s been “grounded”
