PREPARATION Please prepare a one-minute comedic or dramatic monologue of your choosing, or the short monologue from the play AND a short verse from a spiritual of your choosing, or one from the play. Audition materials may be found at: capitalrep.org/auditions .
Equity encourages everyone participating in the auditions to wear a two-ply cloth face mask, surgical mask, singer’s mask or respirator (N95, KN95 or KF94). We encourage members to prepare for their audition prior to arriving at the audition venue, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms. For over a decade, Capital Repertory Theatre’s TYA touring “On The Go in-School” productions have been presented in a variety of schools and environments throughout the Capital Region to very diverse audiences. Actors should enjoy performing for and interacting with young audiences (elementary and middle school students). There are post-show discussions after every performance (time permitting). Please note that the TYA work week is Monday – Saturday.
SYNOPSIS: Travel back in time and journey North on the Underground Railroad with Harriet Tubman. Harriet shares her story of bravery, struggle, and triumph as she fights for her freedom and the freedom of countless other African slaves. The story is told by one actor and an African drummer.
SEEKING: Harriet Tubman: (mid-late 20s) Versatile, physically agile, quick study. Harriet as she grows from a 6- year-old child into an elderly woman. Comfortable singing spirituals a cappella.
