MULLINGAR”*

*Monday and Tuesday, August 21 and 22, 2023*

The Ghent Playhouse is pleased to announce auditions for its upcoming fall
show, “Outside Mullingar” by John Patrick Shanley, directed by John
Trainor.



Auditions will be held Monday and Tuesday evening, August 21 and 22, 2023
at 7:00 p.m. at Ghent Playhouse, located at 6 Town Hall Road in Ghent, New
York.



Set in Killucan Ireland, “Outside Mullingar” centers on Rosemary Muldoon
and Anthony Reilly, two introverted misfits straddling 40.  The two have
grown up next to each other on two separate sheep farms in rural Ireland.
Rosemary fell in love with Anthony when she was six, and is convinced he
will eventually come to her.  But having had his heart broken as a young
man, Anthony hasn’t dared opened it to another woman since.  With  his
father threatening to disinherit Anthony, and a land feud simmering between
the two families, Rosemary has every reason to fear romantic catastrophe.
This beautifully written, poetic Irish story, finds the two yearning,
eccentric souls fighting toward their own kind of happiness.  Charmingly
funny, heartbreaking and deeply moving, “Outside Mullingar” sparks hope in
each of us that it’s never too late to take a chance on love.







*ROLES*:



*TONY REILLY – (Plays 75 yo) – *A sly, wily old Irishman, in ill health and
on oxygen.



*ANTHONY REILLY – (Plays 42 yo) – *Tony’s son; an intense dreamer;
painfully shy.



*AOIFE MULDOON – (Playing around 70 yo) – *In bad health and needing a
cane, she is a bit ravaged with grief, having just lost her husband.



*ROSEMARY MULDOON - (Around 38 yo) – *Aoife’s daughter.  She is in love
with Anthony, and plans to stay and work the farm, since her father’s
recent passing.







Those interested in auditioning who may be younger or older than the stated
ages of each character, but feel they could play the role effectively, are
strongly encouraged  to audition.

*Auditioners will be asked to read specific scenes from the script.*  *An
Irish brogue helpful.*



The rehearsal schedule will be based on the availability of those chosen
for the production.  Those interested in auditioning are asked to be as
specific as possible in listing *any* and *all* conflicts.



Performance Dates:  October 13 through 22, 2023, Friday and Saturday
evenings at 7:30 p,m., and Sunday afternoons at 2:00 p.m., with a preview
performance on Thursday evening, October 12 at 7:30 p.m.
