CAMBRIDGE, NY (September 17, 2013) — The TheatreCompany at Hubbard Hall (TCHH) has announced the selections for its 2013 – 2014season: Jean Giradoux’s Ondine; Parallel Lives: The Kathyand Mo Show by Kathy Najimy andMo Gaffney; William Shakespeare’s King Lear; and John Steinbeck’s Of Miceand Men.
Seasonsubscriptions are now on sale priced at $80, which includes one ticket for eachof the four plays as well the opportunity to purchase additional tickets at adiscount. The season will kick off Friday, November 15, opening night for Ondine, directed by TCHH Artistic Director John Hadden.
Subscriptions can be purchased online atwww.hubbardhall.org, or by calling (518) 677-2495.
ArtisticDirector Hadden describes the coming season:
Ondine by Jean Giradoux, the diplomat/theater poet who wrote The Madwoman of Chaillot, is ahilarious, bittersweet adult fairy-tale-love-story. Ondine, the princess of thesea, adopted as a mortal child by a peasant couple in the woods, meets awandering knight, the egotistical Hans von Wittenstein zu Wittenstein. Allkinds of wonderful disasters play out to excruciating ends. The play is full ofancient magic and colorful theatricality, laced with plenty of amiable cynicismto keep it real. November 14 – December8.
Parallel Lives: The Kathy and Mo Show by well-known TVwriter/comedians Kathy Najimy and Mo Gaffney, is a two-woman comedy thatJeannine Haas and her comedy partner Julie Waggoner have been playing to packedhouses, roaring with laughter, all over the area. Dozens of characters indifferent situations get it all wrong in every conceivable way that only humanbeings can do and still think they’re living on the same planet. Weep withlaughter and soothe your January blues. January16 – February 2.
King Lear, arguablyShakespeare’s—and the theatrical canon’s—greatest tragedy: A dying father, transferring power to his daughters, collides with submerged hatreds andjealousies all around him that rise to the surface as he weakens. A legion ofevils born during his earlier reign threatens to tear apart his sanity. He mustresolve them somehow, without the use of power. This production is dedicated tothose who have died and all their loved ones. February 27 – March 23.
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, from his novel that was widely banned at the time of release during theDepression, is the story of two farm workers, Lennie, a gentle monster and George, his loving caretaker. Steinbeck’s great achievement is that he brings much ofthe tragic beauty found in Beowulf, The Trojan War or Frankensteinright into our own backyard, to American farms, many of which still survive onmigrant farm labor. This was one of the first everyman-hero plays that foundits perfect expression in Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman. TCHH is proudto include the play as part of our ongoing partnership with the AgriculturalStewardship Association. April 24 – May4.
