Nacre Dance Company offers Master Class and Performance at Hubbard Hall in Cambridge, NY

Nacre will come "Full Circle" with live music and dance on the stage at Hubbard Hall in Cambridge, NY on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013 at 8pm.

Nacre Dance Company's mission is to sustain modern dance classics and inspire new choreographies. In this concert Nacrewill take the audience through a brief history of modern dance.

Nacre will perform three solos from Jose Limón's "Dances for Isadora" (1971), staged by former Limón dancer Jennifer Scanlon. Limón regarded Isadora Duncan as his "dance mother," and this series of solos evokes different periods of her life by intertwining aspects of both her artistic and personal lives. Limón made one of the solos, "Niobe" (Mourning Mother), on Scanlon. Scanlon, who attended Juilliard and performed with the Limón Company for 21 before taking a position at the Boston Conservatory, is working with Nacre for this production.

Also on the program are three pieces that date back to after Duncan's time. Doris Humphrey's "Soaring" (1920) which is the lyric idea of wind, wave and water in the great form of a fleeting veil and "Waterstudy" (1928) which was the first dance to be done without musical accompaniment.

Representing the experimental years of Modern dance will be Anna Sokolow's "Kaddish" (1945) which will be sung by area soprano, Vedrana Kalas Bubregovic, as a tribute to the late David Janower, former Maestro of Albany Pro Musica. This piece was one of the first she performed under his direction.

Concluding the program will be two original works by Nacre's Artistic Director, Beth Fecteau: Marilyn McCabe's "Ny Verden/New World," a poem cycle set with music and dance to reflect on the human spirit of exploration and the costs of conquest; and "Chocabell," set to the music of Bach played by area cellist Will Hayes.

Nacre will also be conducting an open masterclass for all dancers prior to the performance on Oct. 19, 2013 from 3:00-4:30pm. For ticket and master class information, please visit www.hubbardhall.org<http://www.hubbardhall.org> or call 518-677-2495.
