Spotlight Players Community Theater, Inc. announces auditions for their summer musical, the Capital 
District Community Theater premiere of The Producers.The Producers is a comedy-musical adapted by 
Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan from Brooks' 1968 film of the same name, with lyrics by Brooks and 
music by Brooks and Glen Kelly. As in the film, the story concerns two theatrical producers who scheme to 
get rich by overselling interests in a Broadway flop. Complications arise when the show unexpectedly turns 
out to be successful. The humor of the show is accessible to a wide range of audiences, and draws on 
ridiculous accents, over the top caricatures of homosexuals and Nazis, and many show business in-jokes.  
The musical opened on April 19, 2001 and ran for 2,502 performances, winning a record-breaking 12 
Tony Awards.
 
Roles: This is a large cast show with over 20 people cast in various roles, ages 16—70.  There are many 
ensemble and richly comedic featured roles, including ethnic roles, older roles, dancers and an extensive 
use of the chorus.
 
Please come prepared for a vocal audition of 32 bars from a Broadway Musical, preferably from the show, 
but not required. There will be no a cappella singing. An accompanist will be provided. There will be a 
reading audition.  There will be a choreography audition, please come prepared to dance.  
 
Performances are scheduled for July 23-25, 29—31 and August 1.
