Now that I have your attention...!

Hello Capital Region theatre companies! We are seriously In Search Of a partner - but it actually doesn't matter how attractive you are, as long as you're hard-working, committed, and fun-loving.

The Theatre Association of New York State (TANYS) is seeking a theatre company to host the 2019 TANYS Festival, which will take place in November 2019 (traditionally the weekend before Thanksgiving). Ideally, this will be a commitment of 2 years or more.

This year's TANYS Festival (November 16-18, 2018) will be the LAST one held in Auburn for the foreseeable future. It's been at least a decade since the TANYS Festival was held in the Capital Region. We'd love to move it back to the eastern side of the state, to make it more geographically accessible to Capital Region theatre enthusiasts. And we know there are several strong, healthy theatre companies in the Capital Region who would be ideal hosts!

Q. What does it take to host the TANYS Festival?

A1. Physical & technical site requirements include (but are not limited to):
- The host company should own, manage, or have reliable access (throughout the Festival weekend) to a performance space that's conducive to productions originally performed in both intimate and proscenium settings.
- The site must meet minimum space requirements, and have offstage wing space, storage space, dressing rooms, load-in and load-out access, and headset communication functionality.
- The site must have standard stage lighting capability with dimmers/control channels and minimum 2-scene preset.
- The site must have a standard sound board with inputs for computer/iPod and microphones, a CD player for effects playback, and front of house speakers and amps.
- The site must have adequate display/merchandise space, adequate toilet facilities and parking, rooms for meetings and workshops, a private room for the Festival adjudicators, and be ADA compliant.

A2. Personnel and other requirements include (but are not limited to):
- The host company provides a Festival Chairperson and volunteer committee, who plan and work the event, plus experienced technical design and running crew. (TANYS supplies a Festival Technical Director.)
- The host company should have good local business relationships to secure sponsorships, in-kind donations of food, supplies or other items, and local publicity.
- There should be sufficient local hotel accommodations and nearby food establishments, and nearby locations for the Friday night Afterglow and Saturday night banquet.

Q. Why should my company host the TANYS Festival?
A. While there's plenty of work involved in hosting the Festival, there are also LOTS of benefits!
- Your company will gain publicity and build your positive image, both in your own community and statewide.
- You'll be able to show off your facility, plus your individual and company know-how and abilities.
- Your team will decide the Festival theme, customize the weekend's activities, and be able to leave your personal imprint on a highly anticipated annual theatre event.
- Each member of your team will build on his/her expertise, abilities, connections, and project management skills - all of which look GREAT on a professional resume.
- Your team will work with, and learn from, community theatre peers from all over the state (as well as our regional/national/international Festival adjudicators) - building their theatrical skills and knowledge, so they can apply it to your own company's productions.

If you're interested in hosting the 2019 TANYS Festival, or want to find out more information to share with your Board, contact me, Cindy Nagle, at skindy13 at aol.com. Thank you!
