The Albany Academies Musical Theater Summer Camp is seeking a musical director for its upcoming production of Seussical, Jr.

There are nine total work/rehearsal days.  The dates are June 24 – 28 and July 1 – 5.  (No rehearsal on July 4.)  The hours are 8:30 – 4:30 every day and you must be available the entire time.  There is also a 7:00pm performance on the final Friday.

Job responsibilities include:

  *   Teaching group and solo musical numbers to campers.
  *   Operating the backing tracks during rehearsals and performances.
  *   Engaging with and being a positive role model for the campers, which includes several counselor-type supervision duties.
  *   Participating in and sharing leadership responsibilities for group activities, workshops, and games.
  *   Being flexible and willing to adapt to the needs of the camp throughout the fast-paced rehearsal period, which may mean assisting on tasks beyond the musical direction.
  *   Attend a short camp orientation in mid-June.
  *   Be willing communicate with staff in the evenings in order to prepare plans each day.

Candidates should be 18-years or older and have experience working with younger children (ages 8 – 14).  Candidates do not need to accompany the show on piano, but they should have the skills to competently play vocal lines and provide basic accompaniment as needed.  The ideal candidate will also plan dynamic and engaging music rehearsals, with an understanding that younger children may need to move a little in order to stay focused.

Pay rates are hourly and are set by The Albany Academies Summer camp.  Pay may vary based on education and experience.
