To Any and All Interested Capital District Actors and Actresses:

Sword and Harp Productions is now casting a wide range of actors and
actresses for “Who Called the Gods in 2020,” a comedic short film to be
made completely through video conferencing.

The film is written by director Ryan Gangemi and will be filmed over three
evenings in mid-to-late August, exact dates TBA. The purpose of the film
is to keep the arts flourishing during the dark period that is 2020 and to
give actors and filmmakers an outlet for their creative energies. Once
the film has been finished, we mean to circulate it to the Capital Region
community and to various film festivals. Unfortunately, as Sword and Harp
is still a developing company, this is an unpaid gig.

Online auditions will be held online between Monday, July 13th and Monday,
July 20th. Contact the team at SwordandHarp at gmail.com to set up an
audition time- these are extremely flexible due to the nature of online
auditioning. You will be asked to fill out an audition form and may
provide resumes and headshots, if you should choose. Sides will be
provided once an audition time has been established.

SEEKING:

Yu Huang (25-65) Fastidious, well-groomed Asian (esp. Chinese) male.
The moderator, famed Jade Emperor of China, intelligent, friendly, quietly
powerful. Constantly struggling to keep the other deities on task.

Zeus (30-70) Mediterranean (esp. Greek or Italian) male.
Once King of the Greek Gods, now retired to a condo in The Valley. A
fading playboy who has grown comfortable with his yuppie lifestyle.
Occasional flashes of his onetime glory.

Hera (30-55) Mediterranean (esp. Greek or Italian) female.
Zeus’ bitter wife (separated). Still very much a queen, now in the style
of a ‘50s movie star. Haughty, yet deeply caring, especially for those who
once worshipped her. Crashes the meeting.

Jesus (20-35) Fit, bearded, any ethnicity (African Americans
and people of Arabic/Middle Eastern descent encouraged), male.
Compassionate, gentle, passionate, if frustrated by the way his messages
have been subverted.

Ceridwen (20-50) Black, red, or blonde hair preferred, pale or light
skin, European (Celtic, Irish, Scottish, English preferred). A new member
of the gathering, only promoted to the status of goddess in the last three
hundred years. Extremely wise, caring, and even a bit fiery, if also a
touch naïve. Welsh or RP English accents a plus, but not necessary.

Diana (20-40) Athletic, any ethnicity, female. Zeus’
huntress daughter who has found new significance with the neo-pagan element
of the world. A feminist who can sometimes be a bit overpowering in
support of her beliefs. Has a great disdain for men in general.

Odin (40-70) Tough, grizzled, European, blond or white hair
preferred, male. The general. Former King of Asgard, he’s blunt, to the
point, often coarse, yet there is wisdom to his words. Has trouble
accepting his fall from godhood. Wants action.

Isis (25-50) Slender African, Middle Eastern, or
Mediterranean female. Isis is the Queen of Queens, dignified and
authoritative. She is one of the eldest representatives present, but
doesn’t look it. She is always in control and has a rocky relationship
with Hera that dates back millennia.

Shiva/Kali (20-50) Fit Indian, Middle Eastern, or Southern Asian male
or female. The script calls for the inclusion of one of two characters
representing Hinduism, both being protectors and destroyers. Intense,
devoted to his/her people, deeply misunderstood. Indian accent encouraged
but not necessary.

Eve (20-40) Any ethnicity, any appearance. Mother of the
human race. Feisty, intelligent, sarcastic, frustrated with her lack of
options from the beginning of time. Must be comfortable with the
appearance of nudity (shoulders and upper chest bare on camera to give
illusion of nudity).

Adam (20-40) Any ethnicity, any appearance. The father of the
human race. Easy-going, a bit dim, sweet. Must be comfortable with the
appearance of nudity (shoulders and upper chest bare on camera to give
illusion of nudity).

Oya (20-50) Athletic or tall, African/African America
female. A powerful river spirit-goddess and a great warrior who has long
stood as a protector of her people, she is annoyed at how poorly her people
have been treated under European colonialism, proud that her traditions
have flourished. As Oya is worshipped in many parts of Africa, any African
Continental accent is encouraged, but not necessary.

Amaterasu (20-40) Graceful Asian (esp. Japanese). Sun Goddess. A
powerful personality, initially calm and gentle, building up annoyance at
the other gods. Japanese accent a plus, but not necessary.

Hades (40-70) Well-groomed, currently disheveled, any
ethnicity, male. Former Greek God of the Dead, demoted to upper-level
management overseeing new arrivals to the afterlife. Over-worked, slowly
burning out, angry at those above him, frustrated by those below him.

Baron Samedi (30-80) Slender, athletic, or gaunt body type, black or white
hair or bald, African American male. Lively, obscene, flirtatious, loud- a
god of the dead who loves life and those who live it. Is far more worried
about 2020 than he lets on, believing he should only see the dead when
they’ve lived a good life. Haitian, New Orleans, Creole/Cajun, or North
Louisiana accents a plus, but not necessary.

The Morrigan (20-60) Regal and stately, black or dark brown hair, European
(Celtic, Irish, Scottish preferred) female. A triple goddess and an aspect
of The Goddess, she is hard and dark, fierce and vengeful. Irish access a
plus, but not necessary.

Maui (20-40) Athletic, of one of the following descents:
Hawaiian, Maori, Polynesian (particularly Samoan), male. Clever, lively, a
demigod who has been promoted after experiencing a recent, unexpected,
surge in popularity that he is enjoying immensely. Tattoos welcome, but
not necessary. Accents native to any of the above people a plus, but not
necessary.

Thoth (20-60) Clean cut, African, Middle Eastern, or
Mediterranean male. The perfect bureaucrat and analyst amongst the gods.
Presents hard, cold facts, no matter how terrifying. Slowly coming
unwound. Posh-sounding accents of any sort welcome.

Quetzalcoatl (30-50) Any appearance, Native America (especially from
Central or Southern American descent) or Latino male. One of the few gods
invited from amongst America’s native population. Furious but intelligent,
harsh but deeply supportive, is one of the few voices for immediate
intervention to save mankind.

Mithra/Lugh (18-35) Athletic or Lean, European or Middle Eastern, blond,
red, or black hair preferred, male. An ancient sun god, rarely remembered
but once considered the greatest of the gods and a great defender of
mankind. Jesus has taken his place in the world’s view, but he doesn’t
mind this. Resigned to his fate. Irish, Welsh, or Scottish accent
preferred for actors of European descent (Lugh), any Middle Eastern accents
for Mithra, though none of these are necessary.

Ishtar (18-35) Slender or otherwise sensual (up to actress to
interpret this- all interpretations welcome) Middle Eastern, Indian, or
African female. One of the world’s oldest goddesses, often arguing with
Isis that she came first, she ruled over love, marriage, sex, and war. All
of these things are still part of her and she hopes to regain some lost
power by becoming part of the Goddess movement.

Cassandra (18-30) Dark hair, Mediterranean or Middle Eastern
female. Not a goddess but a human prophet who has been predicting 2020
for ages… No one listened. Eccentric, paranoid, extremely frustrated.

Loki (18-35) Disheveled, European male. Furloughed God of
Mischief. Debating whether he should go back to work when 2020 is over.

It should be noted that all characters are based on mythological archetypes
and are written to convey those archetypes.

All ages, ethnicities, and genders are welcome to apply. If you do not
feel you fit any of the above characters, please feel free to audition
none-the-less. Simply contact our producers and they will find the
appropriate character for you to audition for. The script is designed to
alter as we see auditions, allowing for the personalities of Talent to
inform the ultimate feel of the piece and we are hoping to create an
inclusive mythological ensemble.

About the Film: “Who Called the Gods in 2020” is based on the premise that
all world mythologies and religions are rooted in reality. The gods,
ancient and modern alike, are all real… and 2020 has them spooked. When
one god calls on all the others to meet online to avoid Corona Virus and
discover who is to blame for what can only be described as a truly awful
year, fingers get pointed, beliefs are argued, and the personalities of
those mankind has worshipped for years threaten to make the problem so, so
much worse. Yet, there is a reason mankind has worshipped these figures…
perhaps, with the right argument, that reason will be revealed.

About the Company: Sword and Harp Productions was founded five years ago
and has finished three films to date, the award-winning “The Second Loss,”
as well as “The Girl and Her Man” and “The Last Brave Defender,” both of
which had limited Capital Region releases. “The Girl and Her Man” and “The
Second Loss” may also be found online. Post production is taking place on
their fourth film, “Imperfect Goddesses.”

About the Director: Ryan Gangemi is a writer, director, and college
professor who specializes in writing witty dramas and
historical/fantasy/science fiction. His training has been in writing for
stage and screen as well as in world mythology and early Medieval
literature, specializing in Arthurian Romance and Mythology. This is his
first foray into straight comedy for film and online filmmaking.
